Sail Canada would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to Jamie Gordon for his leadership and unwavering dedication as the Chair of and Ontario Representative on the Sail Canada’s Cruising Sub-Committee. After 15 years of service, effective immediately, Jamie is stepping down from these roles on the Cruising Sub-Committee.
Throughout his tenure, Jamie has been instrumental in advancing Sail Canada cruising programs, enhancing safety standards, and elevating the quality of training for sailors across Canada. His notable contributions include providing leadership for the development and maintenance of standards and rubrics for the cruising, navigation and powerboat portfolio which have provided invaluable guidance to instructors and improved learning outcomes for students. Contributions include the development of the Start Keelboat Program and refocusing the Navigation training program.
Jamie worked closely with Transport Canada as the Sail Canada voice in the development of the Recreational Boating standard and has been deeply involved in aligning Sail Canada’s standards with the Transport Canada Recreational Boating School program, helping to ensure compliance with national regulations while maintaining the high standards Sail Canada is known for. Jamie has been a key resource in the development of communications reflecting changes to the regulatory environment for Cruising and Cruising instructors and worked with Sail Canada on the maintenance and management of the Sail Canada PCOC and VHF training offerings. Jamie has been a strong advocate for the use of distance learning in the development of instructor knowledge and for support of and communication with Cruise, Power and Navigation system stakeholders.
His dedication to updating standards, examinations, and instructional materials has been vital in keeping Sail Canada programs relevant and effective, benefiting countless sailors and instructors.
Jamie’s passion for sailing and his commitment to excellence have left an indelible mark on our community. We thank him for his many years of outstanding service and wish him fair winds and following seas in all his future endeavors.
