Athlete Bio

James Juhasz from Oakville, Ontario, embarked on his sailing journey in 2007. He was introduced to the world of sailing on his parents’ small keelboat and honed his skills in the laser radial racing team. James later joined the Ontario Sailing Team in Toronto, and now represents the Oakville Yacht Squadron in the ILCA 7 which he has been competing in since 2017.

James has a clear objective in his sailing career: to represent Canada at the Olympic Games and bring home a medal. This ambition fuels his commitment to training and competition, and he is dedicated to achieving his goal.

One of James’ most treasured experiences is the two years he spent living and training full-time in Malta from 2020 to 2022. This period provided him with an immersive exposure to European culture, helping him to develop a global perspective and create lifelong friendships. His experiences in Malta and other parts of the world also underpin what he loves most about sailing: the opportunity to explore different cultures, visit historic landmarks, and form connections with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Beyond sailing, James has a secret talent and passion for playing the guitar, which he has nurtured since he was eight years old. Looking to the future, James envisions a career in professional sailing, specifically in ocean racing and big boats, after his Olympic journey. While he admits to being unsure of his plans following his professional sailing career, his unwavering commitment to the sport is a testament to his passion and dedication.

Currently on a break from his History and Politics program at Queen’s University, James continues to navigate his journey both in sailing and life, buoyed by his resilience, ambition, and the invaluable life experiences he has gained along the way. His story is one of determination, adventure, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
