Ron Rosenberg and Erin Rafuse top the list of special guests at upcoming Regional Talent ID Camps

Kingston, September 29, 2022 ‰ÛÒ Sail Canada is pleased to announce that renowned sailor and coach Ron Rosenberg as well as Canadian Olympian Erin Rafuse, who competed at the 2016 Rio Games, will be among the special guests slated to take part in the upcoming Regional Talent Identification Camps.

A total of four Regional Talent ID Camps will be held over the next few months, for a total of eight since the start of 2022. The upcoming events will take place based on the following schedule:

-September 30-October 2: Royal St-Lawrence Yacht Club (Quebec)

-October 1-2: Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron (Atlantic) ‰ÛÒ double handed

-October 8-10: Royal Victoria Yacht Club (West)

-October 29-30: Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron (Atlantic) ‰ÛÒ single handed

The Regional Talent ID Camps are for sailors under 21 years of age and are an opportunity for young sailors as well as coaches to come together in their respective Canadian regions to push each other and build connections with the new Sail Canada National Training Centres.

Ron Rosenberg in British Columbia, Erin Rafuse in Nova Scotia

At the Royal Victoria Yacht Club, which will host the event to be held in the Western part of the country on October 8-10, Ron Rosenberg will attend the camp over the first two days.

Ron Rosenberg is an American sailor who has won five world titles (World Sailing Youth World Championships, J-24, Olympic Soling, Etchells and 5.5 Meter), two Gold Cups and one European Championship. He has more than 50 national titles in a wide variety of One-Design classes and was elected Team Captain of the US Olympic Sailing Team in Barcelona in 1992 with his team winning medals in nine of 10 events.

Erin Rafuse from Halifax, Nova Scotia, will attend the double handed event at the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron, October 1-2. Erin represented Canada at the 2016 Olympic Games as the skipper in 49erFX, where she finished 16th with Dannie Boyd. She also competed at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto.

‰ÛÏRon will bring a wealth of technical experience from some of the most competitive professional fleets in our sport, considerable insight on sailor and coach development, as well as sincere and infectious enthusiasm. We hope to add to the Regional Talent ID Camps by introducing a different voice and perspective on technical skills, on how many opportunities there are in both Olympic and professional sailing, and how to navigate some of the challenges for young sailors who are striving for excellence at the highest levels of our sport.‰Û
