Sail Canada is saddened to hear the news of the tragic passing of John Tinker. A pioneer in the sport, John took to his love for sailing and made significant contributions to the sport. As CYA president back in the early 80s, contributor to World Sailing, and a Sail Canada Councillor of Honour, he is worldly recognized for giving back the sport.
John received an ISAF Gold Medal in 2000 and was awarded the prestigious Beppe Croce Trophy in 2003 for his outstanding voluntary contribution to the sport.
John was predeceased by his wife, Ellen (nee Fleming) and is survived by his son, John (Barb) and his daughter, Liz. He was a loving “Nampa” to his grandchildren Adam (Nicole), Heather and Jamie. He also enjoyed his great grandson, Bennett.
