Sailors hit the water at the Canadian Sailing Youth Squad Trials Camp
45 of Canada’s best youth sailors from across Canada all made their way to Clearwater, Florida this week to take part in the first Canadian Sailing Youth Squad Trials Camp.
The camp began on January 2nd and will run through to January 6th. The sailors will be coached by Canada’s top coaches and will be evaluated by the Sail Canada National Performance Coach Ken Dool, Sail Canada National Skiff Coach Krzysztof Kierkowski and Sail Canada’s High Performance Director Mike Milner.
“Part of the Sail Canada high performance strategic plan is to identify young athletes and work with our partners to make them better earlier in their sailing careers. We are very happy with the second stage of this process with 45 athletes (who were selected from an original pool of 186 athletes) competing for spots on the 2020 Canadian Sailing Youth Squad” – Mike Milner
While the Canadian Sailing Youth Squad Trials Camp is being used to select the 2020 Canadian Sailing Youth Squad, it is also a fantastic opportunity for Canadian youth sailors from all classes to come together to spend 5 days sailing together and improve together to make canadian sailing stronger.
The camp consists of on water sessions and evaluations as well as fitness testing and in class room sessions.
