Class Associations

As a Member National Authority, CYA is a representative for Canadian Class Association at the international (ISAF) level. Currently there are over 30 CYA recognized class association members in Canada. Sailors are encouraged to contact their respective Class Associations to find out what racing circuits, organized class development and/or recreational cruises are now available in their region or across Canada.

Become a Member Class

New or existing classes may apply to become a CYA class association by returning the CYA Class Association Information form to . The annual membership fee is a flat rate, $100 per year.

Services Available for Member Class Associations

  • Opportunity to apply to and utilize CYA’s Financial Assistance Program (FAP) for eligible sailors’ campaigns and class programs
  • Letters of endorsement for applications to your international Class Association to host a World Championship, applications for hosting grants, and in delivery of sponsor packages
  • When hosting a World Championship event in Canada, the CYA provides guidance, support and submission of applications for funding with Sport Canada’s Hosting Program
  • CYA provides your Association with any relative first hand notices from ISAF (Rules, Event Grading, etc.)
  • Assistance and guidance in Event Planning:
    • Notices of Race
    • Sailing Instructions
  • Assistance in recruiting CYA certified Race Officials - Race Management teams, Jury & Umpires - for any of your one design events
  • Assistance in recruitment of certified & insured Coaches and Specialized contributors at Training Camps
  • Upon receipt of information & / or links, visibility for your Class and any sponsors by means of CYA website, Feature and News articles, CYA’s monthly e-Newsletter, Communiqués to Provincial partners and Regional programs, Member mailings
  • For your Class National Championship, Member Class Associations receive CYA medallions for top 3 boats - other CYA paraphernalia may be available upon request
  • Access to Duty Exemption for new equipment being brought into Canada

Opportunity for your Class at CYA's Women's National Keelboat Championships

  • Round up the girls & women in your class and make sure you send a team off to the annual CYA Women’s National Keelboat Championships!  This event puts all female teams in a common class – the high quality training and racing results in prominent experiences that the ladies will bring back to your Class events.

Sailing Awards for Canadians

Great history is apparent in the trophy list at the CYA.  Many CYA Trophies are awarded at the annual CYA Awards Event.  The recipients of CYA awards are honoured and recognized nationally and internationally.  Keep key volunteers in your organization informed of the CYA Awards selection criteria, deadlines and nomination procedures.  Get your best sailors, volunteers and venues recognized!
