Position: P/T Seasonal CYA Keelboat Instructor 18yrs or older (mid-April – mid-September)
The Broad Reach Foundation for Youth Leaders (Broad Reach) is the only program for disadvantaged and at-risk youth in Ontario that combines life skills development, leadership building, and sailing. Since 1998, Broad Reach has provided its unique educational approach to disadvantaged children and youth between the ages of 12 and 24. They come from a wide variety of economic and socially challenging environments such as homeless shelters, low income and new immigrant neighborhoods, and street youth drop-in-centers. The program operates aboard 12-metre racing sailboats located at HMCS York. Expected time commitment is 20hrs/wk, start date mid-April or soon thereafter.
Job Details:
Broad Reach is looking for a current CYA Keelboat Basic Cruising Instructor to oversee and deliver our program. Instructor should have a commitment and aptitude for working with and teaching youth. Our programs are focused on the skill sets and leadership that come from being involved with sailing. The Instructor should have a progressive approach to teaching and coaching youth, with a special emphasis on leadership (e.g. teamwork, communication, self-esteem building, cooperative problem solving, etc.). Instructors are assisted during on-water programming by our experienced volunteer sailors. In addition, Instructors should be able to:
· Take good care of our sailboats (assistance provided by volunteers)
· Provide program coordination with the assistance by the executive director and Board members
· Work flexible hours as program takes place during the day, in the early evenings and on weekends (mostly weekdays)
· Take on additional responsibilities and duties from time-to-time as required by the organization
