Saturday February 26th was a big night for a dozen Canadian sailors from across the country! CYA award winners were brought to Toronto where their achievements of the past season were feted. Sailors were recognized for on water performance, volunteerism and regatta management. Attendees, including Olympic medalists, world champions, Canadian royalty, the Pope (of Sailing) and proud supporters enjoyed a festive evening celebrating all that is Sailing in Canada!
Here are some highlights from the awards presented;
The Gerry Roufs Trophy is awarded annually to the sailor whose achievement in international offshore racing has had significant impact on the recognition of sailing in Canada. No one can argue that Richard Oland is the most fitting recipient of this award this year! Richard joined the event on Saturday fresh from winning his class and 2nd overall in the RORC 600 race in the Caribbean.

Paul Tingley, recipient of the Male Athlete of the Year award was unable to be in attendance to receive his award due to a rigorous training and competitions schedule, all a part of his 2012 campaign. The highlight of Paul’s 2010 performances is undoubtedly his world championship victory in the 2.4mR.
