The CYA – in partnership with FVQ - is offering an Instructor Evaluator (IE) Course in Sail Cruising scheme, in French language! Here are some details:
Location: L’Université Laval in Quebec City, Quebec
When: October 21-23, 2011
Delivery: in the French language
This CYA Cruising IE course will train and certify instructor evaluator candidates to in turn deliver the training and evaluation of Cruising Instructors.
With the increase in demand for sailing lessons in cruising keelboats, the CYA and the FVQ realise that more instructors need to be trained - this initiative for leadership development is a building block in moving the process forward. Three (3) very experienced IE candidates from Quebec will be participating in the course and with their training the FVQ will be able then to offer even more Cruising Instructor courses across the province, thus building up the entire programme.
Leading the Course: The CYA is implementing the approach of best practice to deliver leadership development in Canada. Appointing into the leader teams Certified Senior IEs and professionals from two or more regions of the country fulfills CYA initiatives to progressively deliver the best in training to all Canadians by means of annual sharing of knowledge and skills development techniques. Next month’s CYA Cruising IE course is being conducted by Normand Corbeil, with bilingual assistance from Judy Robertson.
Normand has taken the lead in the design and implementation of the updated CYA IE course in French, and with his many years of experience on and off the water is a great asset to sailing in Quebec. Off the water Normand is an engineer and has been teaching engineering at the CEGEP level since the 1970's. Along with his impressive off water career, Normand has also become a very accomplished sailor, with over 55,000 nautical miles under his belt.
Besides having owned a variety of boats over the past 30 years, Normand has taken advantage of wonderful sailing opportunities in many exotic locations.
Normand's passion for sailing and his experience as a teacher has made for the perfect combination to pass onto others his love for sailing. He has been teaching sailing for the last 30 years and since 1994 has been a CYA certified Senior Instructor Evaluator with the CYA and also a Cruising Instructor with the FVQ. He owned L'École croisière Mercator from 1982-2006 and in his capacity as instructor and evaluator has trained over a thousand sailors!
Judy hails from Nova Scotia to join Normand in Quebec to assist in the delivery of the IE clinic.
An educator, Judy has taught school and university courses since the mid 1980's and has been involved in sailing since childhood. Having been brought up in dinghies, Judy moved into keel boats in her teens and has raced and cruised extensively offshore in North America and Europe over the past thirty years. Beside her cruising instructor levels with the CYA, Judy is a Royal Yachting Association Yachtmaster Offshore Instructor. She has brought together her love of teaching and of sailing and has worked hard to develop CYA youth sailing programmes and adult sessions for both men and women in Nova Scotia.
