The Canadian Parliament passed the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act into law in 2009 with a deadline for all affected organisations to comply by 2014.
Under the chairmanship of Christine Winiarz Searle, CYA’s transition group has been working on the changes that CYA must make to comply with the Act.  This work has included a review of CYA’s letters patent, preparation of articles of continuance and development of new by-laws.
The new Act provides for better definition of classes of membership and CYA will be tabling proposals at this year’s AGM.  The opportunity to review other aspects of CYA has also been embraced and at the AGM the membership will be asked to consider some fundamental changes to the objects, membership structure and name of the organization.
